30 April 2008
The 2007 En-Primeur has kicked off (Even without Parkers scores) with two very serious releases from the hotly tipped appellation of Sauternes - 2007 is undoubtedly a superb year for both the Sauternes and dry whites. . .
Château Rieussec
Château Rieussec, which is owned by Lafite Rothschild, is available @ £500.00 IB per case. . . Rieussec has received some very notable scores from the critics:
Jancis Robinson 19
Sweet, vaguely sticky nose. Certainly impressive for the sugar level! And there's an attractive savoury undertow that stops it being sickly. Lots there. Reverberates. Long. Very long. It has that thing that a good Condrieu has: a subtext
Wine Spectator 93-96
Balanced and very spicy, with almond paste and apricot. Full-bodied, medium sweet, with a long, fruity, tangy finish. Layered and stylish.
Château Suduiraut
Château Suduiraut is usually released at the same price or slightly higher than Rieussec but this year the price is less, with the 'prix de sortie' the same as in 2005 (2005 is a lesser vintage for Sauternes). We are delighted to offer Suduiraut @ £445.00 IB per case. . . Some are saying this challenges the superb 2001, which is currently hovering around the £700.00 mark. . .
*We would recommend buying either/or both in half bottles – More value in the smaller format. . .
