My inbox is literally flooded with releases this morning... First up is the excellent Château Poujeaux, which I can highly recommend @ £200.00 IB per case or £190.00 if 2 or more cases are purchased. Both Parker and Suckling appreciate Poujeaux's efforts with two very creditable scores. A must buy and super value. . .
James Suckling 93-96
Full and very velvety, with round and juicy tannins. Creamy. New ownership here is really making a difference in wine quality; this is the best ever after maybe the 1929.
Robert Parker 90-93*
The Cuvelier family that has done so much to resurrect Clos Fourtet purchased this estate that had long been the pride and joy of the Theil family. A large vineyard, and certainly the finest wine of the somewhat forgotten appellation of Moulis, the yields in 2009 were 40 hectoliters per hectare, and the wine is a blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Soft, fleshy, and opulent, with lots of black currant and black cherry fruit intermixed with hints of cedar and spice box, and an enticing texture result in a wine to drink now and over the next 10-12 years. It is a sleeper of the vintage.
Over in Sauternes, Château Raymond Lafon is available @ £260.00 IB per case... It would be accurate to say that Jancis Robinson simply adores this wine and awards a whopping 19/20 – Only Château d'Yquem pips the number one spot with 19+... Super value and utterly delicious.
Jancis 19/20
"Lively greenish gold. Very indulgent nose that sends a tingle down the spine. Great tang and life as well as richness. So pure and flirtatious – not one of the sweetest but beautiful balance and refreshment, without being an 'aperitif style Sauternes'. Quite exceptionally persistent. Hints of blossom and real lift. Orange peel and real zest – great energy. Not heavy at all, This takes 2009 Sauternes to a new level. Extremely bright fruit. Long and rich. Not a fat style of Yquem".
Over on the Right-Bank we can offer Château Fombrauge @ £210.00 IB per case (91-93 Parker) & Château Bon Pasteur @ £540.00 IB per case, which receives some very respectable scores
Robert Parker 92-94
Another terrific offering from well-known oenologists Dany and Michel Rolland, the 2009 may or may not eclipse their 2005 and 2008, but it offers wonderful notes of caramel, mocha, black cherries, and black currants in a seamless, full-bodied, opulent style. It possesses a dense ruby/purple color, lots of glycerin, superb purity, and a textured, long, concentrated mouthfeel. As always, the brilliance of this team transcends its terroir in Pomerol. Enjoy the 2009 Bon Pasteur over the next 15-20 years. (Tasted once.) Drink 2010-2030.
James Suckling) 93-96
Full and long, supervelvety and rich, with plum and raspberry. This is a really big Le Bon Pasteur.
