This morning kicks off with one of the great names from Pomerol. . .
Château L'Église Clinet
Château L'Église Clinet, which is offered and highly recommended @ £730.00 IB per case. . . Thankfully, this represents a huge saving on last years opening offer (600 Euros per case).
2007 L'Église Clinet is Robert Parker's top scoring Pomerol (91-94), which beats both Le Pin & Petrus.
Neal Martin also awards a high score of (93-95)
"Harvested between 19th and 26th September, a blend of 85% Merlot and 35% Cabernet Franc. Two samples presented by Denis Durantou, the first made on 28th March. The nose is lacking a little intensity after a few days with blackberry, wild hedgerow, a slight clayey component. The palate shows immense concentration with tense, tightly coiled black fruits and great sense of minerality. The second sample (1st April) has more intensity and lift on the nose, here with more of a damson, mulberry component; more rounded and harmonious in the mouth, the tannins more defined and with a natural sense of balance. Great clarity and focus with a persistent finish of blackcurrant leaf, briary and minerals. Wonderful".
NB: Quantities are very limited – Please revert ASAP if you wish to purchase. . .
Château Pichon Lalande
Château Pichon Lalande one of the truly great 'super-seconds' has just been released @ £595.00 IB per case. . . Sadly, it’s a similar story to Pichon Baron’s extravagant pricing policy (of yesterday). . .
I would rather spend an extra sixty quid and opt for the excellent 2006, which Monsieur Parker rates 94-96 whereas the 2007 only receives a lowly 88-90!
Clos du Marquis
Clos du Marquis, often referred to as the second wine of Château Léoville Lascases comes highly recommend @ £225.00 IB per case. . .
NB: Robert Parker's scores the 2007 (90-92), which puts it on par with Les Forts de Latour and Pichon Baron priced £580.00 & £520.00 respectively. . . Parker also rates the 07 above every vintage since 1982. . . For interest, the 2005 has been awarded a 'bottling' score of 91, which currently sells for £330/40.00.
I think you will agree that £225.00 seems an excellent bargain and a great opportunity to pick up a delicious drinking wine. . .
