Archive Releases
6 May 2008
We've experienced a flood of releases during the Bank Holiday/& this morning; of particular interest were three of the top and most highly rated Sauternes/Barsac:
2007 is undeniably a fantastic year for the sweet & dry whites of Bordeaux – Many have compared the vintage to the great 1967. Undoubtedly, 2007 is the best vintage for sweet wines since the phenomenal 2001. . .
"THIS IS A YEAR WHICH IS BEING COMPARED WITH 2001 FOR ITS RICHNESS AND PURITY, 1988 FOR ITS BALANCE AND BREED, WITH SIGHTS SET ON 1967 AS THE ULTIMATE ROLE MODEL." David Peppercorn MW, Decanter.com
Doisy Daëne
First up is the highly recommended Doisy Daëne, which is offered @ £240.00 IB per case:
Neal Martin 94-96
Robert Parker has passed the 2007 Sauternes scoring mantle to Neal Martin. . . Neal awards a very impressive score range of 94-96. . .
Jancis Robinson 18.5
Pale greenish gold. Floral, mineral notes with a strongly mineral streak – promising! Very exciting. Classic stuff with strong botrytis character and great richness yet lots of well integrated acidity. Quite long and neat. A throat warmer.
Château Doisy Vedrines
Neal Martin also awards 94-96 for Château Doisy Vedrines, which we can offer @ £210.00 IB per case:
Doisy Daëne L'Extravagant
And to the rarest of all Doisy Daëne L'Extravagant, which we can offer on a first come first serve basis as quantities are extremely limited for this super-cuvee , somewhere between four and six barriques, as little as 100 cases are produced, depending on the vintage offered @ £2,700.00 IB per case. . .
Neal Martin 97-98
*We would recommend purchasing these in half bottles – More value in the smaller format. . .
Château Beychevelle
The ever popular Beychevelle has been released and is available @ £260.00 IB per case (87-90 Parker) however, we can not recommend this due to the high price – Why pay £260.00 when you can purchase the 2006 (90-92), which is a far more accomplished wine for around £240.00?
Château Sociando Mallet
Unfortunately, it's the same story as above. . .2007 isn't a great wine by any stretch of the imagination and the release price of £250.00 is very difficult to justify. We would prefer to recommend the delicious 2006 at £240.00. . .
